The Commercial Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade takes an active role in ensuring the Ministry’s overseas aid programme and other key initiatives are well supported with agile and flexible procurement services. We are focused on delivering great outcomes through collaborative approaches to establishing strong business relationships. We are part of an integrated system that enables the Ministry to do great things in the world.

We have vacancies for 2 Commercial Portfolio Managers (1 permanent and 1 fixed term) to lead teams in introducing a customer focused approach to procurement. These roles will:

  • Lead a commercial portfolio team to support excellent procurement services
  • Implement innovative and practical commercial solutions to achieve great outcomes.
  • Use your procurement skills to make a real difference in the world.

What the role does

These are key commercial leadership roles responsible for the implementation of flexible procurement across the Ministry. Your portfolio of customers will include a number of Ministry Divisions and will see you directly supporting a wide range of Ministry initiatives, including NewZealand’s overseas aid programme. You will find yourself actively involved in delivering some of the most significant outcomes the Ministry is tasked to achieve.

In doing this, you will be a leader and advocate for high quality procurement practice, including flexible and agile market approaches, as well as implementing strategic procurement and supplier relationship management across the Ministry.

What we need

We are looking for self-starters with strong leadership and relational management skills. The successful candidates will be customer-focused, approachable, and have great attitudes. They will be experienced in the practical application of procurement skills across a wide range of markets, and will bring with them a passion for delivering public value through great procurement practice.
