About MSD Legal Services


Legal Services provides professional legal advice and advocacy services to all areas of the Ministry.  We advise frontline and National Office staff on a diverse range of matters including legislative and policy development, welfare, human rights, privacy, media, contracts, and employment law.  We conduct proceedings in the District and Employment Courts and represent the Ministry before the Social Security Appeal Authority and other Tribunals. We advise on claim resolution for historic abuse claims and work with Crown Law to manage higher court litigation.


About the Role


Reporting to Southern Team Manager the successful applicant will have a genuine desire to work in the public service with energy, drive and passion to develop and maintain successful relationships across the team, with clients, and external stakeholders.


The Southern team within MSD Legal advises front line staff on a wide range of legal issues, conducts the prosecution process in the District Court and manages matters before the Social Security Appeal Authority.


This role works within a geographically spread and supportive hard-working team which is focused on delivering excellent client service and high quality legal advice. 


About you:


  • A minimum of 2 years of experience providing legal advice to clients 
  • Level 2 or 3 PPU prosecution classification would be an advantage
  • Pragmatic and solutions focussed
  • Influencing skills
  • Able to build successful client and team relationships
  • Current practicing certificate
