Lead Advisor (12-18 month Fixed Term contract)

In response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions a Crown secretariat has been established to coordinate and align the Crowns engagement across and between agencies (including the Ministry).

 

About the Role

 

The Lead Advisor for the Inquiry will undertake research and provide advice to support the Chief Advisor in the Ministry’s response to the Inquiry.

 

Duties

 

  • Undertake quality research
  • Assist the Chief Advisor to define the nature of supports needed
  • Produce draft reports, briefings, policy papers, consultation documents and background materials
  • To review and analyse submissions
  • To contribute to the Ministry’s day to day business for the Inquiry and represent the Ministry when required on relevant cross agency working groups
  • To work across the Ministry to scope, resource and manage appropriate and timely responses
  • To participate in cross agency initiatives including the crown secretariat

 

Skills and experience

 

To be successful in the role, you will need to be:

 

  • Highly developed analytical skills
  • A sound knowledge of the machinery of government
  • Good knowledge of how the child protection system operated
  • Hold a tertiary qualification as well as comprehensive experience at a senior level in an analytical role
  • Project management and leadership skills (to be able to lead strategically and with influences)
  • Have a demonstrated understanding of tikanga Maori and te reo Maori
