The Ministry of Education’s purpose is to be the lead advisor on the education system, shaping direction for educational agencies and providers and contributing to the Government’s goal for education. 

As part of this vision, the Ministry is currently going through an exciting change journey in order to meet, improve and influence how the system will be shaped for the betterment for every New Zealander.

The Data and Information Stewardship (DIS) group is looking to secure a passionate BI Developer who want to be part of their reporting journey.  Their vision is to enable the organisation to be better at the dissemination of data in order to provide an exceptional customer experience for all New Zealand educational users. 

 

The Role of Principal BI Specialist

The Principal BI Specialist is responsible for directing BI projects from inception to completion within the Data Solutions and Warehousing team. The Principal BI Specialist is responsible for driving the strategy to implement a reporting environment and a self-service reporting solution that supports the Ministry’s analysis and decision making process.  The Principal BI Specialist must ensure that maintenance and quality assurance occurs throughout the reporting lifecycle.

Given this is a principal role, you will also help to coach and mentor those less experienced in the team in order to lift their capabilities and champion best practices for a reporting solution.

 

The Person

With a strong background in Business Intelligence, with at least 10 to 15 years’ experience, you will have in depth knowledge of leading software products and technologies pertaining to Business Intelligence and data visualisation with demonstrated experience in implementing a managed self-service BI solution. They must be capable of working across the Ministry and external stakeholders.  They are both motivated and an inquisitive person who will be able to identify requirements, provide solutions and communicate findings in an understandable way.  You are technically strong in any one of the commercially accepted BI stacks with exceptional communication skills.
